No, this is not a book review on Robert Louis Stevenson’s 19th century novel, but a simple acknowledgement of an existing reality here, which effects our lives in some ways.  Last month, an NGO worker was kidnapped from a restaurant here in Abeche.  Thankfully, the man was freed a week later unharmed.

While these events are probably less likely than being hit by a car while crossing the street, they do effect our lives and require us to take certain precautions.  For example, we avoided most “NGO-frequented” places for most of the month of June and generally tried to not be out after dark.

As you’ll read in the linked articles, UN Minurcat forces are departing Chad at the end of this year and turning over security responsibilities to Chadian forces.  Please pray for the security situation and that God would grant peace for all the people who dwell here.
