Here in Chad, the choice of sport is kuura, otherwise known as football in Europe and soccer in America. Nehemiah’s favorite team is Real Madrid and his favorite player is Cristiano Ronaldo. Attayib bought him a Ronaldo jersey and he wears it everyday to play soccer in the street with his friends. His friend, Ali, also has a Real jersey, so he and Nehemiah are always teammates. The other boys play the role of arch rival Barcelona FC.

Last night, the true rivals (Real Madrid and Barcelona) squared off, so Nehemiah and I went out to go watch the game with others. There were about 150 people all squeezed under a thatched covering made of straw held up by tree limbs stuck in the ground. All 150 people were fixed on a 20-inch TV to watch the game. It cost us about $.30 for admission to watch the game.

Just to get Nehemiah’s goat, I cheer for Barcelona, which was a good thing last night because Lionel Messi, one of the greatest players in the game right now, put on quite a show. Check this out:
