Iowa Basics
…which is a short way of referring to the Iowa Tests of Basic Skills (ITBS).
Although we use a order Deltasone classical education model in our home, which approaches the study of subjects like history and science a bit differently, we want to make sure the kids aren’t straying too far from what many of their peers in the States are learning. So, one of our goals during this furlough back in the States was to assess how the kids are progressing in their studies. We turned to the good ol’ Iowa Basics test which both Sonja and I took at different times growing up in public school and also administered as teachers in our respective classrooms.
In April, Sonja gave the 2nd grade test to Nehemiah and the Kindergarten test to Evangeline. Last week, we received their results and were really proud of how well they did on their first standardized test. In the core areas of Reading, Language, and Math, Nehemiah had a National Percentile Rank (NPR) of 98%, while Evangeline scored an 86%. More important than a score, though, we tell the kids is that they apply themselves wholeheartedly in order to use their minds and talents to bless others for Christ’s sake.
We celebrate these little mile markers along that road, so kudos to the Bucko and Dolly for all their hard work in their studies. We love you!
