The Sensitive Tortoise
Last week, during our stay at Lutsen, Auntie Kari offered to take the two youngest for a short swim. The odds were high that this would be a lot of fun with these two characters:
The pool was located in the lodge, which was a good distance from our cabin. There were many stairs to descend and a bridge to cross before they would reach the lodge. This long journey could take some time. Aunt Kari helped steady Hadassah’s steps:
Now you might wonder, where has Athanasius gone? Well, like the hare in Aesop’s fable, the Scooter had bolted out to a commanding lead with his great speed. His lead was so great that he decided to stop and enjoy a rest along the way:
Where our present story takes a turn from the historical one is what happened when the tortoise (Hadassah) came upon the hare. Rather than moving past him and proceeding on to win the race, she had pity on his frail frame and easy fatigue. She was after all, a sensitive tortoise. So Hadassah also laid down next to the hare and enjoyed a rest:
When their energy had returned, they finished the journey together, went swimming together, and then took a picture with Auntie Kari…yep, together:
