Book Review: Little King Davie

Young David Scott did not know wealth or privilege.  In fact, losing his father as an infant had forced him into early labor as a meager crossing sweeper in the busy streets of London, in order to help his mother and family survive.  Imagine his surprise then, when upon stopping by the local Abbey to enjoy the singing and music and being invited in to sit down, he hears the local clergyman say,

“by His blood…He has made us kings and priests unto God (Rev. 1:6)…which can be claimed by all, rich and poor, high and low, learned and ignorant!  That little fellow out yonder who sweeps his crossing in the street…can be as much a king unto God as Queen Victoria upon her throne.”

The words mesmerize Davie and he waits after the service to ask the clergyman how he might become “a king unto God”.  But, when he ventures into the street, a life-threatening collision lands him in the hospital wondering if he’ll ever have the chance to hear how a poor crossing sweeper might become “a king unto God”.

We just finished “Little King Davie” and it didn’t disappoint.  The kids were on the edge of their seats wondering what was to happen to Davie next and we had many valuable discussions together as Davie is led to consider that the Greatest King of all came to serve.

Good, I’m glad you’ve enjoyed it Kendra. They have some really good books, as we have enjoyed about 5-6 of the Lamplighter Publishing books.
