Two Outcomes of Faith

Nehemiah was running a 104.4 fever this week.  Evangeline was at a 102.5 with vomiting for several days.  Are my prayers for their health failing?  Do I lack faith?  Maybe.

What does faith look like in these situations of our lives?  The sick child, the unbelieving family member, or the loss of a job?  What outcome does faith produce in these situations?

So many times, we are taught that faith leads to victory and healing in our lives.  Yet, Hebrews 11, reminds us that there is another outcome of faith.  It is a “different” kind of triumph.  After the writer of Hebrews lists all the heroic victories accomplished by faith (you know, people raised from the dead, lion’s mouths shut, etc.), he then starts listing what appears to be some “odd” accomplishments of faith:

…others were tortured, not accepting their release, so that they might obtain a better resurrection; and others experienced mockings and scourgings, yes, also chains and imprisonment.  They were stoned, they were sawn in two, they were tempted, they were put to death with the sword; they went about in sheepskins, in goatskins, being destitute, afflicted, ill-treated (men of whom the world was not worthy), wandering in deserts and mountains and caves and holes in the ground. (Hebrews 11:35-38)

This reminds me that as I pray for my own soul, as well as my children, I want to ask not only for faith to believe that he heals, but also for faith to believe that he sustains us in whatever circumstances He has called us to.  May you find the same faith in whatever your circumstance.
