Book Review: Sir Malcolm and the Missing Prince

Prince Hubert is spoiled, selfish, and prideful.  His father, the King, feels hopelessly resigned to the fact that Hubert will never be fit to rule the Kingdom well, and especially so after he and his court witness his son render an unjust verdict when asked for his opinion in a case before the King.

Enter the King’s trusted advisor, Sir Malcolm, who tells the King that he has a plan, which he cannot reveal to the King, yet asks for his permission to execute.

Samuel Goodwin hit a homerun with “Sir Malcolm and the Missing Prince” and while “Teddy’s Button” will probably always be my favorite Lamplighter book because it was the first I read with the kids, Sir Malcolm is a close second.  To give you a taste of it’s richness, here is what Prince Hubert says to his father toward the end of the story:

One moment more, sire…to tell you of the gratitude a boy owes to a man he once called ‘father,’ a man who showed naught but kindness to an impertinent child, who then thought himself above all others, who failed the man when put to the test. Oh, sire! That child has wished through many long hours that he might just once say, as now I say to you, ‘I did not understand. Your love for me was too great for me to understand, but now I see what then I was too young to know.’ In gratitude I give you the love of that boy for whom you did so much.

Whoa!  What in the world did Sir Malcolm do that aided such a turnaround in Prince Hubert?  For that my friends, you ought to buy the book, which is also available in audio theatre format order Prozac Generic prednisone .
