Chad Within Us

Well the test results are in.  What test results you ask?  Well, we have each managed to make our visits to the doctor for our every 2-3 year health examination.  My doctor congratulated me on having experienced a high percentage of the world’s major diseases and yet coming out with a bill of good health.
Unfortunately, the same couldn’t be said for our oldest two.  It seems that they still are holding onto a little bit of Chad.  Tests revealed that while Hadassah is as fit as a fiddle, Nehemiah presently has giardia, as well as non-active amoebas in his body.  Not to be outdone, Evangeline actually has giardia, non-active, and active amoebas, which explains why she’s continued to have diarrhea even though we’ve been back in the States for two months.
We figure that these things pretty much live inside our bodies when we are there, but it’s still not easy to receive the official news.  Both the older two are taking medications to hopefully kill them off and maybe be rid of them for the next year at least.
Click on giardia or amoeba, if you want to read what they actually are and what they do to your body.  They are mainly transmitted through food in places where there is a lack of proper sanitation and hygiene practices.  Here is our family enjoying a meal in Chad back in December:
…by the way, for those wondering about the Scooter, he finally produced a stool sample for us to take into the lab, so we’ll find out in a couple days if he’s carrying anything.
