Adoption Is Great

Sonja has been enjoying a weekly Bible study with some friends for the past couple months.  Tonight, she came home and told me about one of the women in her group and how she and her family were adopting a young girl from China.  The little girl’s name is Naomi and she is almost the same age as Hadassah.  They have a little website, where they share about their little girl and the steps and challenges towards this adoption.  I appreciated reading the father Ken’s honest words in their journal about the struggles of trusting God to provide as they walk in obedience to Him:

I have been struggling lately with the cost of adoption—more specifically, the financial cost of adoption.  Gina and I have been reading about some of our friends (and a few others via their personal blogs) who are currrently in the process of adding to their family via adoption, or have recently completed the adoption process. It seems like so many of them have the financial resources to accomplish this without sweating about it!   But as I look at the faithfulness of God in our lives in the past, God reminds me that He is there, and He does not call us based on our bank accounts.  He looks for those who are willing to trust Him and take a journey of faith with Him.  Our Heavenly Father will provide.  If you have not listened to the song we have on this site (Faithful, by Chris Tomlin) listen to it.  Let it encourage you, and begin to trust God for the things in your life that seem too big to get on top of.  God is faithful.

A friend of the Paulson family created a neat little way to help them raise the final $5,000 for the orphanage and legal fees in China by making a 500-piece puzzle of Naomi and encouraging people to consider donating $10 per piece of the puzzle.  The Paulson family then writes the names of those individuals and families who donate each piece or pieces, as a reminder of the manifold ways that God has provided for them and Naomi.
There are about 15 pieces left ($150 needed), but I’m sure there are more expenses than just what is listed.  If you have a heart for adoption, enjoy giving, and have been given the ability to do so, I would encourage you to follow this link, and buy a puzzle piece, five, or ten.
We praise the LORD for families like the Paulsons and many of you who say to those little ones without a family, “Welcome, come near, you are precious in God’s sight and we love you.”  Here’s a pic of little Naomi:
