At The Ballet

On Wednesday morning, Sonja and Evangeline visited Orchestra Hall to watch a performance of Stravinsky’s “Petrushka purchase Zoloft by the Minnesota Orchestra with full dance choreography by the Minnesota Dance Theatre.  It was part of the Young Peoples Concerts “At The Ballet” program.  The original “Petrushka”, written in 1911 and performed in France, told the story of a traditional Russian puppet (Petrushka) made out of straw and sawdust, who comes to life and begins to develop emotions (this was before similar storyline of “The Velveteen Rabbit” or “Toy Story”, but after “Pinocchio”).  While the music was the same for this particular performance, the storyline, choreography, and costumes were modernized and fitted to more iconic American figures and themes.

As we’ve written about before, Evangeline loves ballet dancing and has a growing fondness for the violin so this was a special treat for her to see both of those worlds interact.  Here’s a picture of the concert attenders:
