Every day that John walks to school, he passes through a section of the road which is hedged in by great thorn bushes. His curiosity about what wonderful things might be on the other side leads him to place his little sister, Bell, in grave danger. John’s father explains that God places hedges of thorns in our lives in order to protect us because he loves us. Yet, as John becomes a young man, will he abide within those loving boundaries, which God has set for him or will he attempt to break through the hedge again?
Based upon a true story, John Carrol’s “Hedge of Thorns“, written in 1611, is a great aid in helping your own soul as well as that of your children’s understand why we have boundaries in life and that we will find the greatest path of blessing by abiding within those boundaries. As a brother and sister, Nehemiah and Evangeline both related with the story closely and enjoyed the lessons even more greatly.
