Packing Time

August… For many people in America, August means trying to make the most of the last days of summer vacation, and gearing up for another school year.

When we turned the calendar to August in our house, we started packing up and planning how to fit our life into and on top of our van.

We try not to think about the goodbyes or how long it will be until we see family again.  In the next couple weeks we will be saying goodbye to grandparents, aunts and uncles, cousins and friends.  We’ll say goodbye to the familiar and hello to another new culture, new people, new language, and a new home.  We’ll take our last bite of Taco John’s (Jacob) and enjoy our last sip of Caribou Coffee (me).   Maybe they’ll have something similar in Québec.

Lots of people wonder what the kids think of it all.  The older ones have been doing this all their life so for them it is “normal.”  They’ve done it enough and know that we’ve taken care of them wherever we’ve lived.  They now get excited about the new places they’ll see and wonder if they’ll have their bikes with them there.  And the younger kids just want to make sure that Jacob and I will be going with them.  Athanasius heard me talking about leaving and he said “Can I go too?”  Sure, Scooter, you can come too.

Just want you to know that you are regularly being prayed for during this time of transition. May God comfort you and may you be reminded of His strength and wisdom as He moves you from one pasture to another.
