Preparing For Eid Al-Adha
Tomorrow is Eid al-Adha, or as they refer to it locally in Chad, Tabaski. It is the annual remembrance of the story of Abraham and the sacrifice of the sheep rather than his son. The majority of our neighbors celebrate this story by purchasing a kabich (a ram) the day before and then slaughtering it in the morning and eating the meat with one another.
Here, Hadassah and I sit watching the ram our neighbors purchased in the market, wondering if he realizes what’s in store for tomorrow. His horns aren’t caught in a thicket, but he is tied to the tree with a rope:
