In Chad, it is very common for a woman preparing to have a baby to have her mother visit and help in the delivery of the baby.  If her mother is unable to come, she may return to her mother’s home to deliver the baby there.  All of this is especially true when it is their first delivery.

Such is the case for our friend and neighbor, Afra.  A few weeks ago, she left with her mother to return to her hometown in a neighboring country, where she hopes to deliver her after a few more months of pregnancy.

Afra left instructions for the kids to take care of her plants, so the girls have been going over each morning to water them in her absence.  Here is the family with Afra just before she left:
