Airport Nightmare

Did you ever watch one of those old animal horror flicks when you were younger? You know, the one where the giant spiders or a massive colony of bees attack a small midwestern town and the people band together to fend them off. I felt like we were in one of those movies last night.

We were scheduled to depart aboard Turkish Airlines around midnight, so we arrived at the airport at about 10 PM.  After check-in, baggage drop, and security went pretty smoothly (for a family of seven), we sat down and waited for our plane.  Shortly after midnight, an announcement in French said that our flight was delayed due to technical difficulties and there would be another announcement in 90 minutes.  I started to wonder if we would make our connection flights and how I would communicate this to the other airlines.

At the same time, we started noticing these large cockroach-like creatures crawling into the waiting room.  They entered by slipping under the door.

Then they started to spread quickly throughout the room.

The mode of transport of these creatures was mostly crawling, but when they got the gumption, they could also fly.  Before we knew it, there were at least 30 of them all over the waiting room.  Some people were annoyed as the bugs would land in their space.  Efforts were maid by airport employees to sweep them outside, but they would simply enter again minutes later.  Others had fun with them.  Athanasius and another boy were kicking them back and forth across the tiles as if they were soccer balls.  Here’s a couple closeups of the creature:

At about 3 AM an announcement came on our flight.  It said that the flight was delayed due to technical difficulties and we should await further announcements in another 90 minutes (in other words…same as the last announcement).  Finally, at 6 AM we were informed that the flight was cancelled and told to recollect our luggage.  So, my tired crew spent almost 12 hours in an underdeveloped airport terminal with cockroach creatures only to return home this morning.  The good news is we were asked to come back tonight so that we can try it all over again :-)cost of cialis 2.5 mg
