Making Our Home

Even in Africa, people want their home to be a place of beauty, peace, and rest.  Chadians will use bricks, rock, and paint to add to the aesthetics of their home.  They will hang curtains inside.  The people we live amongst are wealthier than most Chadians and will even use nice rugs and have couches in their homes.

For years, I’ve told Sonja that once we settled down somewhere, I would do my best to make our home feel like a place we enjoyed living in and could see ourselves working out of for years if the LORD would have it that way.  While it took us the better part of 7 years to find that place, we believe we’re there now.  So, last year, we called up our friend “IKEA” and sent over supplies on a container.  The supplies included chairs, cabinets, a kitchen sink, kids’ bedroom storage, rugs, etc.  As I looked at the pile, I wondered if I’d be able to fit it in our vehicle to transport it from the capital:

To my surprise and with some help from my buddy Daniel, we got it all tucked in there quite easily and with a little room to spare.  Here was the vehicle shortly before departure:

In some future posts, I’ll try to show a little of what our home looks like here now and what was truly inside this truck.
