Driving Through Rebel Territory…

Well, we actually made it back yesterday morning (Friday) from Hadjer Hadiid.  There were a couple NGO workers that needed to catch flights today to N’djamena from Abeche, so the Suprefe (like the town mayor) offered to send his vehicle along with armored guards to see us through the rebel territory, where there have been hijackings (which is why NGO workers take flights now).  They had a couple extra seats in the vehicle and offered to bring Sonja and I if we desired.

I told Sonja it was bound to be another bumpy ride, but that the choice was up to her.  She must have missed the kids because she said, “Yes, let’s go”.  We got up at about 5 AM to leave.  It ended up only being about 3 hours (100 km), with the two vehicles racing at a pretty good pace.  The kids were surprised to see us in the morning, as they were told we may not be back until Monday (Nehemiah actually said he sort of wished we didn’t come back until Monday…..gee thanks, Nehemiah).

By the way, the “silver lining” in the cloud of these “duststorms” is that they actually cloud the sun, so the temperatures have been in the 60s at night and 90s during the day.  Woohoo God……thank you.  I’ll be praying for more sandstorms in the future :)

So thankful to hear that you made it back safely – prayers answered again. Dad looked at several google sights to see where you were and saw some of the dry bed waddes from a you-tube videos. Interesting! We can so see Nehemiah saying that – he must have been having fun! I’m sure Dolly and Athanasius were very happy!! Love you, Mom
