Prenatal Appointment

Last Friday, I went with Yakhuta to the local Unicef clinic for a prenatal appointment. This was my first appointment after all the traveling we did last month, so I was excited to know the baby was still well. There were about 15-20 women there waiting some with babies and children who were sick.

The Chadian woman who helped me knew Yakhuta because Yakhuta is also five months pregnant. She took my blood pressure, weighed me, measured my belly and listened for the heartbeat with a plastic cone thing pressed to my belly. Then she walked away, and I said in Arabic, “Did you hear the baby?” She said, “Yes, everything is fine”, although the skeptical side of me wonders if she really heard anything. She prescribed iron and malaria medication, both, which I already had. I double checked her measurements and they look consistent with where I should be. I was glad for the opportunity to go there with Yakhuta and thankful for this connection the LORD has given me with her.

Great news about the baby and your new friend to share these regular visits with! That’s great ;o) I will be praying about the opportunities for conversations during those times.
