Searching For An Ultrasound Machine

About three weeks ago, April 12th brought a huge answer to prayer for us, even though it was 120 and I woke up feeling like, “ugh how am I going to get off of the couch?” For some time, we had been asking if there were any ultrasound machines in Abeche, so we might see the baby. One of the women on the WEC team is from Brazil. Her name is Miriam and she told me the week before that she knew a nurse at the local hospital that could help us to have an ultrasound! So at 11 AM on April 12th, while many of you were rushing off to complete your taxes, Miriam came over and said we could go that day. Jacob helped with the kids and Miriam and I walked down to the hospital.

After waiting some time in the hospital, the nurse we were waiting for showed up in her outside clothes and said “khalaas, nemshu.” Okay let’s go. So we started walking and she told us we would have to go to another clinic because this hospital didn’t have a working ultrasound machine. So we took a rickshaw to another clinic. When we arrived, there was a guy watching some Egyptian movie and he said come back at 5pm.

So, Evangeline and I met Miriam at the clinic at that time. It helped having her there because she speaks French. The short of it is after waiting and things, we were able to have an ultrasound. I didn’t see anything but Miriam and Evangeline saw the baby moving, the heart beating and they told us the head is down now and the placenta is in a good place. They also confirmed that the baby was 22 weeks which is what we thought (25 weeks now). Wow. I just was really thanking the Lord for Miriam and her willingness to come with and for the connection she had with the Chadian nurse who knew where to take us and for this ancient ultrasound machine:)

We got home at 6:30 pm, thankful and exhausted.
