Real Butter

While eating at a restaurant a few weeks back, the server brought out a packet of real butter with the bread.  We have never seen real butter here, just margarine, which usually comes melted in it’s tub.  Sonja was so delighted that she visited the restaurant a couple more times just to eat there bread and butter.

Last week, while visiting with guys in a local shop, I went to open the freezer chest for a drink when I discovered the mother lode of butter.  It was a box of 100 individually wrapped single servings of real butter, identical to what the restaurant gave out.  I asked the man where he found these from and how much they cost.  He told me aashriin riyaal (20 riyal) for one, which is equivalent to $.20 cents, and that the whole box was 2,000 riyaal or $20.  I tried to explain that when someone buys more of something, you usually offer them a discount, so he said I could buy the box for $19.

Well, he could have held the price at $20 because I was so excited to bring that box of butter home to Sonja.  The smile on her face was worth it.  Yes, she’s been enjoying real butter every morning for breakfast.
