Indications of Pregnancy
Oh stop jumping to conclusions! :)
One of the enjoyable things about living in this part of the world, is that you hear some of the most off-the-wall, old wives’ tales that you can imagine. In good faith, you sometimes wonder if maybe they’re right, and then you start laughing.
In most parts of the world, sickness and pregnancy walk hand in hand, so when you see a married woman sick and nauseous, you think to yourself, “Hmm…wonder if she’s pregnant.”
This past week, we were introduced to a whole new theory.
You see, our little Princess had her first introduction to Chadian bugs. Sonja has been giving Hadassah a little water here and there over the last couple weeks and this past weekend, she started vomiting for about two straight days. I shared the news with some neighbors in the street, who were wondering where Sonja and Hadassah were that particular day.
The next day, one of the women stopped in to see how Hadassah was feeling. After talking for a little while, she pulled Sonja aside and said, “Have you taken a test? You’re probably pregnant. Whenever a young, nursing child starts to throw up like that, it means that the mother is pregnant.”
WOW! I started celebrating when Sonja told me. Then I thought about how weird that sounds. So, we don’t believe that Sonja is with child, but if Hadassah starts getting sick again, we may have to try and find a pregnancy test in town.
