Air Freshener

When people in Chad want to freshen up the air in their home, they don’t buy a pine tree or an aerosol can, they get out their small clay pots and place a special wood inside it.  This wood gives off a strong aroma, which is moderately pleasant, when it is burned.

It is called الْبَخُور buy Deltasone online  (bakhuur…and you pronounce that “kh” as if you’re clearing the phlegm from your throat in the morning).  Can you guess which word this translates to in English (hint, it’s in the Bible several times)?  Yeah, bakhuur is incense.

Each week in our home, usually after cleaning the kitchen, we burn bakhuur in order to “freshen the air”.  The room billows with smoke and then slowly settles to leave behind a pleasant smell.  Here’s a pic of our little clay pot, as the bakhuur finished burning one day:
