Finger Licking Good
Here in Chad, most people eat with their hands. The staple food is aish and mulaa’, which is a baked bland-tasting grain (millet, sorghum, etc.) grabbed with their fingers and dipped into some type of oily meat sauce. Here’s what it looks like:
I’m not sure if you can file this under the “Becoming Chadian” label, but Evangeline and Athanasius really enjoy eating this. Here’s a picture of them eating it together:
As for their Papa, I enjoyed some stretchy sheep intestines last night with my students from Darfur. I wonder if the kids will embrace that too :)
The “bread” looks to mushy for me, but the meat looks good to me because it looks like many Ethiopian meat dishes which we have come to enjoy at this house.
