Malaria Returns

On Thursday afternoon, I felt it coming on.  So what does malaria feel like?  Since the protozoan parasite invades and destroys your red blood cells, some have compared the feeling to the energy loss one experiences if they were to donate a large amount of blood.  But, though I felt lifeless, I didn’t think it was malaria because I didn’t have the severe cerebral headaches.  Nevertheless, I set aside the normal weekly update that night and went to bed early.

Friday, I continued to feel drained as a headache started and grew.  By last night, it was that same intense pain in the head with a fever and sweating that I faintly remember from last year.  Sonja tried giving me Tylenol, but it did nothing to make the pain go away. buy Deltasone online cheap Zoloft

For the second time in two years, I have malaria…that’s the bad news.

The good news is that Sonja called one of our teammates last night who said she needed to start me on the medication as soon as possible.  In the LORD’s providence, Sonja had a round in the house and immediately gave me four pills.  Unlike last year when the first round of medication did not stop the spread of malaria (most likely due to the severity of the strain), I noticed a marked improvement within 5-6 hours of taking the medication.

Today, though still feeling quite weak, most of the intense pain has subsided.  I will try to rest and let the medicine finish eradicating the malaria (two more days of medication).  Please pray to that end.  Thanks.
