Sometimes it’s funny and sometimes it’s sad how deceiving labels can be.  Political organizations, company slogans, and government laws use titles with “fair”, “fun”, or “help” in them and yet may be far from any of those things.  Such is the case with the group “The Lord’s Resistance Army”.  It sounds like a group of believers in the Lord, who are resisting something for his sake.  Oh, how far that is from the truth.

I first learned about Joseph Kony and The LRA through my friend, Jeff, while working at Hope Academy.  He gave me a documentary called “Invisible Children” which specifically detailed the atrocities this group committed against children.  It was horrifying, but a reminder of realities that exist in other places of the world.

Last year, Congress passed a law to eliminate the threat of the LRA in Uganda and other affected countries and just this week, President Obama authorized personnel and troops to assist in the training of Ugandan forces.  On a political level, while I’m not sure the Word of God carves out such roles for governments (although there is some leniency for “protecting its people), on a personal level, I hope this decision will really bring an end to this man’s and this group’s horrific campaign.
