Athanasius has already completed his high school, bachelors’ and masters’ degrees in this field, so he has a lot to teach all of us.  The other night, we could hear the pitter-patter of feet running around on the roof.  It was dark and all the feet of Broten children should have been in bed.

We both knew who it was and Mama went upstairs to discipline the Scooter, but the maestro fiddler was ready to pull at his mother’s heartstrings and when he heard Sonja coming, the footsteps stopped.  When Sonja arrived up on the roof, Athanasius was staring in the sky and this conversation ensued:

ATHANASIUS: I looking at the stars in da sky. Who made the stars Mama?

MAMA: God did.

ATHANASIUS: Dat right, Mama. Ahh, who made the sunflowers?

MAMA (laughing): Actually, God made those too Scooter.

ATHANASIUS (reaching over to give a hug): I love you Mama.
