Reading The Old Testament
We started reading the Old Testament in the mornings as a family shortly after Athanasius was born. Even though we have been all over the world and had many transitions, it has steadily continued. We have missed some days (or stretches of days) here and there, but always tried to stay on track by reading at least a half of a chapter (usually one chapter) each day.

After we made it through Leviticus and Numbers, there was no way we were turning back. I really think the kids enjoyed the history of the Bible stories and we have often discussed the repeated waywardness of the Israelites when talking together about our own inclinations of apathy towards God. I would strongly recommend to every family whether it takes one year, three years, or five, READ the Old Testament with your children.
So, what’s up next for the Broten family and morning readings? We started Genesis chapter one (and even read it in Chadian Arabic as well) and are hoping to enjoy the OT in its entirety again. Why ruin a good thing, right?

We’re working on Genesis as a family, though I’m reading the New Testament again on my own. :) The Old testament is good, but I normally get more out of the New.
You are the most consistent commenter on our blog Kendra…thanks! We read the New Testament at night. For the last couple years, we recycled through the gospels 4-5 times, but as our kids have had more questions lately about the application of God’s Word, we started the book of Acts and we’re planning to go right onto through all the Epistles. We’re glad to hear you’re reading on your own and pray the LORD blesses your heart for it.
