Evangeline & The Time Machine

I almost forgot about sharing this.  During our final week of the WEC annual conference, we had a Christmas celebration together.  Of course, one of the most exciting parts of Christmas time is going to school or church plays and watching the kids act out the Christmas story.

What happens if there are only four kids?  And one of them is only a year old?

Well the children’s helper for the conference, Catherine, had spun up a creative way of making it happen.  The play was called Evangeline and the Time Machine.  Here is Evangeline standing next to her invention, which would transport her back in time to see the birth of Jesus:

I was especially impressed at the strength of the donkey, the ability of Mary to stay upright (most of the time) over such a bumpy ride, and the kindness of Joseph to hold onto her shirt and pull her back during the few times where she started to slide off:

The accommodations at the inn seemed even more meager than what I remember in the story, but Joseph and Mary handled it all in stride:

Is Joseph smoking there?  Okay, in all seriousness, it was a lot of fun.  Nehemiah and Evangeline did almost all the speaking and singing (Nehemiah had multiple roles) and some of the adults pitched in to make the manger scene look more realistic with lots of shepherds, wise men, and livestock.
