Looking Up

I often find myself getting caught up in situations around me.  Whether it is the kids going back and forth about who passed the forks out or a comment someone made that I keep mulling over in my mind.  And too often my thoughts start to center around myself and what someone thought of me or myself and how I was hurt or offended or myself and how I wish someone else would have served me.

Last week, as I was driving I found myself in a downward spiral of thoughts, I looked out the window and saw the snow covering the Vermont fields and then I looked up a little more and saw the mountains and up a little higher and saw the sun.  And the ugliness of my self-centeredness was revealed by the beauty of God’s creation.  In that moment I realized again that I am desperate for the Lord’s grace to love others.  The Lord keeps showing me more of my sin and more of the sweetness of His grace.

In the year that King Uzziah died I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up; and the train of his robe filled the temple. Above him stood the seraphim. Each had six wings: with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew.  And one called to another and said: purchase Zoloft

                  “Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts;
                  the whole earth is full of his glory!”

And the foundations of the thresholds shook at the voice of him who called, and the house was filled with smoke. And I said: “Woe is me! For I am lost; for I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts!”

May He give us deep sadness for the unloving thoughts we have about others, may we look up to see Him in all His glory and holiness, and may we know the unexplainable love He pours out on us.  Grace.
