My Friend Christy

In our transient life, there are some people that we meet briefly, but never see them again.  Other times, we may spend 3-6 months (or even a number of years) getting to know someone well before saying goodbye.  Of these people, there are a solid group that stay connected with us.  We email back and forth a couple times a year and pray for one another.  And then there are the rare friends that God gives us that stick close to us over the long haul.  All of these relationships are gifts, whether for a short time or a long time.

Last weekend one of those friends that have stuck with us over the years came to visit me in Vermont.  I first met Christy at a Child Dedication class at church.  Nehemiah was just 9 months old and she had just had her second daughter.  Christy and her husband had us over for pizza that night 9 years ago and we’ve been friends ever since.  We love talking together about our kids (they have 6 to our 5), homeschooling, and the battles going on inside our hearts.  Here’s a picture of us from the weekend in Vermont (with our newborns in tow):

Christy knows that she’ll have to say goodbye again, and then again, and then another time.  But at least for now, while we are on the same continent, our husbands gave us a weekend away together.  We drank coffee, went on walks, found some yummy food to eat, drank some more coffee… laughed about the silly things our kids do and reminded ourselves that it’s all worth it.  All the crazy moments where we can’t put together a clear thought or remember what happened an hour ago.  It’s all worth it.  We wouldn’t change a thing…including the fact that God has given me such a wonderful friend.
To close, here are the newest Broten and Roberts additions, Perpetua and Phoebe, getting to know one another.  People kept asking us if they were twins :-)
