Rallet Danga was the hero of week two.  He is one of Jacob’s former and students and an electrician to boot.  He had come over and helped Jacob get the fans running in each of the rooms of the house (some needed to be fixed, some replaced) during the first week.  But, one day this week, Rallet spent twenty minutes trying to open that locked bathroom door inside our house.  He used some kind of metal wedge to create a space between the door and the wall.  Finally he was able to pry it open.  Now it doesn’t always stay shut, but hey, we have a place to bathe in besides the outside warabate!  Here’s the door and indoor bathroom:

The kids’ beds got set up and mosquito nets are place.  With the consistent electricity at night, the fans in each room really help us in getting to sleep at night.  We started having Fatuma get fruit like apples, bananas, and oranges at the market for us.  They are a dollar piece, but sooo worth it.  We had cold water since the water filters, solar panels, and solar fridge were up and running.

Obviously ideally you are able to do all of these things on day one so that you are drinking filtered water, protecting yourself from malaria by using mosqito nets and nourishing your bodies properly, but everything takes a little time to setup.  It feels food to see our home coming together.
