Reflections On Camping
The first day we arrived at our home in Abéché, we didn’t have any for our home. Everything was still packed away in our container and needed to be found and assembled. Our neighbor loaned us her pot and Fatuma made some noodles and sauce for our first meal. But
how did we eat without silverware and plates? We washed off the top of a barrel, dumped the pasta and sauce on it, and gathered around to eat with our hands.
That night, we didn’t have any beds to sleep on. But we had a birish (a Buy Zoloft online synthetic straw mat), which we spread out on our cement roof. All eight of us slept within a 6 X 8 space on the concrete.
It’s no wonder Sonja compares living in Chad to camping. There are lots of opportunities to “rough it”.
