Night Critters

I’m sure every place in the world has its own animals that are native to it.  You’ve seen or heard of most of the common domesticated animals of Chad (cattle, sheep, and goats), but here’s an animal that is one of our kids’ favorites.It is a nocturnal animal, so we usually only see them scurrying around at night, if we get up to use the bathroom.  If you do happen to find one during the daytime, they will often curl up in a ball, which is their defensive position.  These animals are insectivorous, which is a fancy word that means…they eat insects.  They have a spiny coat of hair and a tiny snout, sort of like a pig, which is why they are called hedgehogs.

A few weeks ago, Evangeline and Athanasius stumbled upon a hedgehog with Justus.  They weren’t allowed to keep it this time, as you may remember what happened the last time they became hedgehog caretakers:
