This isn’t simply a mud wall that borders our home. And those holes aren’t the latest trend in Chadian window design. No, our home is next door to a Chadian family that runs a cookie shop out of their home. The picture above is the back side of their massive oven, which basically consists of metal grating raised off the ground above firewood, where scores of cookie trays are placed for baking.

When our neighbors first started their business, it was pretty simple and there wasn’t much variety in the cookies other than the fact that they came in different shapes. Now, they’ve learned how to add different sugars and spices and they are quite enjoyable. Not to mention, they have one of the greatest marketing strategies…they just start cooking and all the smells come drifting into our home. I immediately want to go buy some more cookies :-)
