We just arrived back in Abéché to the exciting news that our good friend, Abdulai, and his wife Hilaal, just had their fifth child, a baby boy. The good news is that we will be able to attend the samaay this week, which is the naming ceremony occurring one week after a baby is born here in this culture.

Technically, the baby’s name is supposed to be given on that day, but Abdulai already let me in on the selection, his name is Ishaac. Here’s Abdulai jumping in for a picture with our family when he visited us in Iriba a couple months ago:
