Sahara Donys Broten

It’s our joy to introduce you to Sahara Donys Broten, born on February 24 at 4:41 PM local time (9:41 AM CST).

Sonja started laboring at around 9:30 am in the morning.  The contractions grew in intensity and after about 7 hours of labor, we welcomed a little girl into the world.  Sahara gets her name as a very obvious geographic reference that she will always carry with her…she was born in the Sahara desert.  Her middle name, Donys, was given in honor of my grandmother who has and continues to walk with the LORD.  In a way that we could never have planned because they don’t happen often during this time of year (and in truth it cemented her name for us), Sahara was born in the midst of a sandstorm here in Iriba this afternoon.

Sahara weighed in at 7 pounds, 13 ounces, and 19 1/4 inches long. Both she and Sonja are doing well and resting together. Here are some pictures of everyone with Sahara after the birth:
