Well it’s almost finished.  The sink just needs the final drain pieces to be connected.  If you want to see the beginnings of this room and appreciate how far it’s come, see the home improvements post from last year.

The main additions and changes to the room was to take out the dining table (never meant to stay there) and replace it with a kitchen island, add a row of storage cabinets, and put in a sink complete with a drain system and water line.  Here’s an overhead view at what the kitchen looks like now:

Sonja’s favorite part of the kitchen is the island.  She loves being able to sit and read in the mornings, have her friend Sarah over for coffee, or help one of the kids with their school work as she’s preparing lunch.  Even the kids like to sit down there and help prepare meals:

Chad is unique in the sense that if anything gets left out…books, dishes, or food, it will immediately start collecting dust.  I’m not talking a little, but lots of dust.  Cabinets and containers help us to solve that problem.  Now instead of having a couple places to squeeze everything into, Sonja has plenty of space to organize her kitchen so that things don’t accumulate dust:

Lastly, as our primary dishwashers, Nehemiah and Evangeline are big fans of the new sink.  The cesspit is finished, along with drain pipes leading all the way from the sink.  It’s just in need of a couple small connecting pieces and Nehemiah will no longer need to carry buckets outside to dump the waste water after every round of dishes.  Even Perpetua says she’ll chip in if it’s this easy:

What part do I enjoy the most?  It’s the smile on Sonja’s face when she tells me, “I really love this kitchen and home!  It only increases my joy to be living here.”
