Growing Up Fast

Generic Zoloft

After class one day last week, Athanasius was waiting for me at the gate and greeted me with, “Nay not boy, Nay man”.

Wow, that was quick!

Of course by Nay, he means Athanasius.  He’s just starting to realize that he doesn’t need to talk about himself in third person, but still reverts to it at times.  It’s cute.  I’m pretty sure the idea of being a man came from the fact that I tried to explain to him that Hadassah was not a “boy”, but a girl and Papa was not a boy, but a man.

While growth may not be quite as quick as Athanasius wants to frame it, the kids really are growing up.  Last week, we celebrated Nehemiah’s completion of 2nd grade with a little party.  We’re really thankful for how the LORD has helped him in school.  Two weeks ago, Nehemiah, Evangeline, and I finished C.S. Lewis’ “The Horse and His Boy”.  After reading two Chronicles of Narnia books with he and Evangeline, taking about one month for each book, I told Nehemiah that he could now try reading one on his own.  The next day he reported he had finished Prince Caspian, told me all about it, and then scored 100% on a test for the book.

Apparently I have been slowing him down :)

Closing question: How do you provide books for someone who enjoys reading like that, when there are no libraries in sight?

I went to bed all excited. Good books are such a great privilege. We definitely need to get another box off to you guys! And, I encourage others to do so. What we will have to pay in shipping we can make up for by buying books at Goodwill or garage sales. I actually find lots of great books at Goodwill for 50 cents each. And not just books for N, but for all of you. Would it be a burden for you to create a “home library” tab on your blog? I’m imagining something that lists what you have, requests, and those on their way (as anyone sending books could send you an email to let you know what is coming). That way we would not fill any precious space with duplicates.

Yes to what Beth said, so we know what you have and what you would like to have. Love the picture and the Twins shirts. :) Love and prayers, Auntie Cheryl

  3. Jacob, do y’all know about these two websites: mainlesson.com and classicreader.com? Both of these I use extensively in Maggies schooling. She is also an avid reader. (I don’t use project Gutenburg as often because the formatting is not as easy to navigate but it does have zillions of titles! ) Maggie does have a kindle and we are continually adding to her library there with copyright free books (pre-1920ish) planning toward the days when we too don’t have a library readily available!
