Our Valentine’s Day Date

My valentine and I enjoyed the movie, “The Vow” and dinner at the Macaroni Grill together (thanks Grandpa and Grandma for watching the kids). If you haven’t seen “The Vow” yet, I would give it a thumbs up. Based off a true story, I’m sure many ladies will smile at the thought of a man trying to win the heart of his wife a second time. For myself, one line from the movie stuck with me, as the topic of divorce was being discussed, one woman said about her husband, “I decided to stay with him for all the things he did right, rather than leave him for the thing he did wrong. I decided to forgive him.”

The movie made me think about two things. The first was the love of my wife. Nobody knows all of our sins, faults, and warts like our spouses. It is a beautiful thing when someone knows all those things and says, “I love you even in all your failures as a husband, father, and friend and I will stand by you until the end.” Thank you LORD for Sonja.

Secondly, I thought of the love of Christ, which our marriages are supposed to emulate. Despite there being nothing good in me apart from Him and loads of wickedness, He says, “I have decided to love and forgive you.” I will stand by you and complete the good work I began. How deep the father’s love is for us.

So, we enjoyed the movie. The one awkward thing was that we showed up a little late to skip all the previews and the movie had sold out, so we couldn’t sit together. There were only single, separated seats remaining. We ended up one row and a few seats apart and just kept turning around and looking at each other when there was a part that made us laugh. Here’s a trailer for the movie:
