Tackle Your Children

Sometime our kids can drive us bananas.  They need instruction and discipline.  We do our best to provide it for them, but listening to ourselves reminds us a lot of the drill sergeant we’ve never wanted to be.  Is that okay or are we bad parents? buy Prozac online

Now, I’m more “drillish” than most and I was on duty last week with my oldest.  It was a challenging week…I’m sure for both of us.  But, probably the highlight of my time in N’Djamena was not purchasing a stove.  Nor was it finally acquiring our family’s vehicle.  It was a simple seven-word sentence from my oldest son.

We went out for lunch and a chat with a friend.  At one point, my friend and I realized that we had been engrossed in conversation for almost three hours.  He turned to Nehemiah and apologetically said, “Sorry I’ve made you sit here this whole time while I’ve enjoyed listening to your dad.”

Nehemiah got a big smile on his face, looked up, and quickly replied, “It’s okay, I actually like listening to him too.”

I just wanted to tackle him right there…his comment made me smile so much inside.  I told him the next day that it was the highlight of my week and that I was honored by his patience, as well as his words.

We must provide instruction for our kids.  Often they will need discipline.  But don’t forget to tackle them…or at least give them a really big hug and tell them how much you love them today!
