The Thirsty Horse

Many afternoons, we leave our gate open and see who stops by to visit us. Iriba is a friendly place to be. There are students from my class who visit, women who come to see Sonja, children who pause to play, and some days…other surprises.

Two weeks ago, a man walked in with a horse and tied it to our tree. This took place while I was teaching my class. The man looked at Nehemiah and told him to bring water for his horse. Nehemiah was a little miffed at the man’s demand, but Sonja reminded him that in showing hospitality to a stranger, God says some have unknowingly entertained angels.

The kids looked on with interest as the horse quickly drank the water from the bucket and he and his owner were soon on their way again. When I returned home, they all shared the report of the man with the thirsty horse in different ways, but each was equally exciting. It’s a blast to live with these people and see what new opportunities the LORD gives to interact with neighbors and passersby.
