Athanasius Turns 6!
We’re right in the thick of birthday season in the Broten family (every month from August to January has at least one birthday or anniversary) and today we celebrated the Scooter’s 6th birthday. The kid obviously has some loose screws because for his special birthday meal, he chose Chadian eesh and khudra (a sauce made from okra) for lunch. One of our neighbors was happy to fulfill the request. Here’s the delicacy and the kids chowing down:

Other highlights in the day included Evangeline’s pancakes, a version of “Pin the Tail on the Donkey”, and a special trip with Mama to the market. While there, Sonja picked up a couple balls for Athanasius and took a picture of him with his gifts.
Having an appreciation for all the elements and messages conveyed in a picture, Sonja pointed out to me the simplicity of the things in the background, the cheap gift, and yet the huge smile on Scooter’s face. He felt like he’d been given the world.

Alessandra saw the picture of the eesh and asked, “Is that cookie dough?” :)
LOL we have a birthday sprint from August to January too! Thanks for sharing, they all look so happy!
Happy belated b-day Athanasius!
