Redheads Unite

Did you know that redheads make up less than 2% of the world’s population? I know this fact because I married one and she reminds me of her uniqueness “every once in a while”.

The funny thing is, I think others inherently realize how unique it is as well.  With every child that we’ve had, numerous people will say, “Oh I think Nehemiah has Sonja’s red hair?”  Nobody has ever anticipated their hair color turning out like mine.  Nevertheless, while each of the kids had a tint of red in their locks early on (if you looked at it just right in the sunlight), each of them has inevitably followed the same hue as their Papa’s childhood (blond to light brown to dark brown).

All of them, that is, until now.

The Brotens have another redhead in the family. Sahara has taken on the red tint and hasn’t looked back. It’s a little bit lighter than Sonja’s currently, but it’s undoubtedly red. Here she is alone and then with Mama (sporting her “Promoted to Big Sister” t-shirt):

Redheads may make up less than 2% of the world, but they comprise 25% of our family!

Have I ever shared with you that my dad had red hair when he was younger and a red beard until it turned gray? Two of my brothers also have red hair. So, if you still count my dad, my family of origin has 50% red heads!
