This We Know

Our family is in the gospel of John these days and we recently finished reading about the woman at the well.  After encountering Jesus, she headed into town to tell others about her experience with Him and threw out the question, “Could He be the Messiah?”  It was said that many believed because of her testimony and went out to see Jesus.  Interestingly enough, they said this after meeting Jesus, “It is no longer because of what you said that we believe, for we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this is indeed the Savior of the world.” (John 4:42)

It’s quite possible that while you may tell someone about Jesus, it may be an encounter with Him that actually causes them to believe or “know that He is the Savior of the world”.  Truth in information is a blessing and can help to guide us and yet there’s no substitute for encountering the living Christ when He meets us in our joy, sorrow, and needs.  Our family was encouraged by the woman at the well to 1) be faithful in telling others what we have experienced, 2) ask BIG questions that challenge the very foundations of life, and 3) encourage those listeners to come and meet Him for themselves.

Jesus is the YES and AMEN for all of God’s promises to us.  This advent season has been sweet for us as we’ve needed Him to meet us and remind us of those promises.  One song that we have sung over and over during family worship this past month has been “This We Know” by Vertical Church Band.  On Sunday, Evangeline and I had the privilege of sharing the song with First Baptist Church in Roseau.  Here’s a good chunk of the song (thanks Nic):

And here’s the more polished version from Vertical Church Band:
