Chameleon In Iriba

Apparently chameleons don’t only exist on the drive up to Iriba, but also in the town itself.  Or at least there’s one, as Athanasius and I discovered this bad guy plodding his way through the sand, so we followed him for awhile:

Everyone knows that chameleons change color, but we discovered some other interesting facts from watching this guy.  This chameleon was amazingly slow.  If you look at the picture, part of that might be due to the shape of their feet.  They actually look like they’re meant to be gripping a tree branch.  It was comical watching this guy try to make his way through deep sand and then climbing up rocks:

Also, if you look at the picture below, see if you notice the chameleon’s eye.  Both eyes are able to move forward, backward, up, and down, depending on where it wants to look.  While walking, it actually moved that beady little eye backwards to look at us.

Of course, none of this dissuaded the Scooter from having a good time and watching the chameleon up close.  It was like a 30 minute science lesson for us:
